Chennai Metropolitan Authority to Expand to Chengalpet, What is in it for you?

The Chennai Metropolitan Area (CMA) is all set to make inroads into a chunk of the proposed Chengalpattu Composite Local Planning Area. To facilitate the expansion of the Chennai Metropolitan Area (CMA), the Housing and Urban Development Department has shelved the proposal of the Directorate of Town and Country Planning (DTCP) to create a composite Local Planning Area for Chengalpattu. However, a similar proposal for expansion of the Local Planning Area for Kancheepuram by including 25 more villages was approved and notified by the government in December 2011. Know Chennai Suburbs: Madambakkam

THE small and little-known suburb of Madambakkam, situated close to Tambaram, is home to a very ancient temple dedicated to Lord Siva, known here as Lord Dhenupureeswarar.

This temple, dating back to more than a thousand years, was built during the reign of the Chola king, Parantaka II, also known as Sundara Chola (956-973 A.D.), father of Rajaraja Chola I, who constructed the famous Brihadeeswara temple in Thanjavur. This temple was probably rebuilt of stone during the reign of Kulottunga Chola I.

Teachers and Neighborhood Get Together to Support the Government School for the Differently Abled

For any educational institution, entering its 25th year is a landmark as the silver jubilee year ushers in a new era of change, development and celebrations. But this is not so for a government school in Tambaram catering to a section of the differently abled belonging to the poorest among the poor and underprivileged. The Government School for the Hearing Impaired in Tambaram has so far functioned from four premises – two marriage halls, for a brief period in a government premises and now from a three-storey rented house in Mudichur.

MTC to Extend its Bus Services to Ponneri, Tiruvallur, Chengalpet, Sriperumbudur and More

Soon students from far off Madharpakkam town, bordering Andhra Pradesh, will be able to travel to Chennai using free bus pass. Thetransport department is contemplating extending the reach of the city’s public transport provider (MTC) services to several towns, including Ponneri, Tiruvallur, and Arani in neighbouring Tiruvallur district. MTC will also operate buses from Tambaram to Chengalpet and Sriperumbudur.
