IRCTC to Setup Pantries Serving Food in OMR IT Companies and Guindy, Ambattur Industrial Estates
The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) plans to open pantries and kitchens to cater to low-end industrial workers and high-end software professionals in Chennai soon as part of its general expansion plans. IRCTC officials are holding negotiations with leading IT firms on OMR like Cognizant, TCS and STPI for opening kitchens or pantry units to serve cooked vegetarian and non-vegetarian food there. Cognizant sought to see IRCTC kitchen before outsourcing catering work, while STPI has sent papers to New Delhi for allotting pantry space, senior IRCTC officials told DC referring to Ernakulam Info Park.
Indian Railways: Carry Your Proof of Identity While Travelling in Train Effective February 15
Rail passengers will now have to carry a proof of identity while travelling in trains from February 15. At present, only passengers travelling on a tatkal or an eticket carry an identity proof while undertaking a train journey. But from February 15, passengers booked on the tickets issued from computerized Passenger Reservation System (PRS) and internet (i-ticket), undertaking journey in AC-3 tier, AC-2 tier, 1st AC, AC chair car and executive classes will have to carry a proof of identity. “This has been done to keep a check on passengers travelling on transferred tickets,” said Neeraj Sharma, Sr DCM, Lucknow, NR.
