Craving for authentic Asian food especially vegetarian food, head to Tuk Tuk Asia located next to Fat Boy Pizza, Alwarpet, Chennai. It is q difficult task to serve Asian Vegetarian food without the hint of the sea food smell but Tuk Tuk Asia made us forget the thought of it by its well-seasoned adapted versions of lip-smacking Asian Food. Understanding the role of sauces in Chinese food, we have been keen to test it out in every Asian food outlet we go. Here too, the sauces ruled with some beautiful in-home preparations that made every dish spectacular. The menu has soups, salads, dimsums, stir fries, small plates – Fried and sauce tossed, Big plates, curries and a total Non-veg only tuk tuk asia special. Many dishes have the Veg and Non-veg option and ours, as always is the Vegetarian food review. We had soup, dimsum, small plates – fried, sauce tossed, big plates, curries and dessert. We also had watermelon juice and pineapple juice.
Hangouts is the common term narrated by the youth today and many parents must be aware of it. To me, when my daughter says hangout, it means my purse is going to weigh a lot lighter soon. But the necessity of it could not be overlooked because friends move in different directions after school and the close-knit group wait for common holidays to meet each other and the enthusiasm is contagious. If it is just a small group, they do meet at home but then it is not all that comfy for them and if the group is slightly bigger then they start looking out for places where they can eat and spend time together. Youngsters have limitations with their pocket money and many times they are forced to find a place to meet and greet because they have no other option but to spend more.
Today’s visit to the Wai Wai City Noodle Bar in Highway Food Street on 100 feet road made it clear that it is a blessing for these children. It is value for money good quality food in an air-conditioned environment in a central easy to reach location, with all the Ts of a real hangout place. This is the first quick serve restaurant of Wai Wai City Noodle bar in Tamilnadu. A decent menu certainly not the tiring book of items, but has starters, main course, beverages, and a dessert. In starters, we have both veg and non-veg options. In noodles, Vegetarians have an edge here as non-veg items are an add-on. If you believe in your culinary expertise, you can also choose to prepare your own noodles.
Flower drum has been in our hit list for quite some time for its Vegetarian Chinese Thai Food. Located in Egmore, it was just not forthcoming rather getting distracted to other restaurants once we hit heart of Chennai. Flower Drum opened their other restaurant at Namma Adyar near Aavin circle (above ICICI Bank). We are thankful to Flower Drum and the Chennai food bloggers community to have made it possible to have a firsthand tasting session at this new establishment. First thing we noticed is the ambiance. Few tables were arranged to have a circular seating accommodating 6 people and more. This has always been an issue when we go as a family for get-togethers.
The menu was exhaustive with good varieties highlighting Paneer, Corn, baby corn and Mushroom. For Tofu lovers, we had few items for you too. Now to the food we had –
OMR Food street located in Okkiam Thuraipakkam, is a haven for food lovers and caters absolute value for money food. This food review is unique in its own terms. When we scouted for food to cater to our different demands across cuisines from different parts of the world, we were mostly disappointed. The urge will sure die down faster looking at the distance we have to cover to move from one restaurant to another. By the time, we reached the second one; our interest in the food is gone. When malls came up, we were excited with the food court concept but sadly, for a vegetarian, it is not easy to walk into an air-conditioned floor where non-vegetarian food co-existed with vegetarian food. The aroma wafting in the air is enough to turn vegetarians off. Now to the subject, the Chennai Bloggers Club invited us for a tasting session at OMR Food Street, and it was a lovely time of fun, food and laughter. It is a small street with shops selling food on the either side and yes, we have a first floor too. We were astounded by the variety of food we got there and good number of options for vegetarians too. Now to the review –
We are back on the restaurant journey and this time it is to a 2 month old restaurant Tasteation in Tharamani. It is strategically located In the Tharamani link road opposite TCS in Ramagiri extension. It is in the ground floor of Velacity, deluxe service apartments. This is a fresh breathe of air for pure vegetarians living in and around Tharamani as this place lacks a hep Global cuisine Vegetarian restaurant. So on a beautiful sunny day, we decided to check out this restaurant and its offerings. It is located on the lane that turns from the Taramani Velachery main road. Since the Restaurant is part of the service apartments, the entry to it is through the Service apartment entrance. The entrance is not a typical one and can be quite misleading but once inside, a nice restaurant unfolds in decor and presentation.
