We are the radio listening generation and with all confidence will say that it was much more enjoyable, non-intrusive and delivered much more than the visual mediums we have today. Interestingly, we came across Deepika Arun, the Founder and Voice Artist of Kadhai Osai – Tamil Stories Podcast and Chittu Kuruvi, a Tamil Podcast exclusively for Tamil speaking children across the globe. A Bioengineer by qualification, it was Deepika’s innate natural resonance with children and experience as an after school activity center owner and school teacher that sowed the seeds for an exclusive Tamil Podcast for children “Chittu Kuruvi”.Read the rest of this entry
Engineers, so sought-after professionals a decade back, specifically computer engineering and its associated branches, are struggling to find a job today. If you are not from the premium institutions such as IIT or NIT, your chances of getting a campus recruitment is almost close to Nil. If at all, you do get one, it lands out to be something that does not concern the specific area of study negating the efforts to qualify in the subjects concerned. Movies such as VIP have subtly highlighted the same. But it is not so rosy all the time with support from home as in the case of the movie.
Many parents especially from the rural area aspire to make their children an engineer and end up selling their precious piece of land and house to get them a seat in an engineering college. Engineering colleges became a lucrative business and it mushroomed all over Tamil Nadu to cache on the computer engineering craze and mechanically generated thousands of engineers every year onto the roads.
Arguments such as “create a job if you cannot find one” is applicable for ones who can afford to set up a business or at least have the resources to acquire a loan. For the ones whose parents await at the village expecting a son or daughter with an Engineering degree and a lucrative job to repay loans and help them to lead a life of sufficiency, it is a far-fetched dream. Even education loans demand the loan repayment 6 months after the course completion, the engineering graduates are still searching for their job past 1 year or have started working in a job which hardly fetches them 7k to 8k. No wonder, education loan features the highest NPA among loans.
This short film, 90s Kidz Entertainment’s “Subramani B.E” , written and directed by Jawahar Sekar, conveys the pain of the Engineering graduates today in a simple yet effective tone. Brilliant acting by the team made the short film interesting though the subject is a well-trodden one.
Kodai Nataka Vizha (Summer Drama Festival) of Kartik Fine Arts is ON in the city and it is wholesome entertainment and drama time for theater lovers. The festival is happening at Narada Gana sabha, Alwarpet from April 22nd to May 3rd. We witnessed the play by Gurukulam Original Boys 1995, Theedhum Nandrum by V.P.S.Sriraman on 1st May at 7 PM. The title is a popular adage, “Theedhum Nandrum Pirar Thara Vaaraa” – We do not beget the good and the bad from others. In short, it conveys that everything is within us and the way we see and adapt ourselves leads us to good and bad in life. The concept of adjustment was so beautifully handled in the play that we could connect with it instantly.

Best known for his evergreen movies, Teesri Manzil, Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak and Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar, Nasir Hussain was amongst those few in the industry who seldom gave a flop. December season is here in Chennai and all the sabhas are buzzing with activity. Halls are filled with active saree clad women competing with enthusiastic dhoti clad men happily nodding their heads to the lovely rhythms of the who’s who of Carnatic music. This season sees the best of concerts and Sabha hopping is a common term for the rasikas. Each one carries a small handbook, a reckoner for the songs being sung with details of raga, tala and the composer. The young ones are much more adept, googling the song as soon as they hear it. Yes, the december music festival is here. The picture says it all – Hall filled and music lovers sitting next to Shri. Sanjay Subrahmanyan during the performance.
Dark! The word has been associated with color, absence of light and with thing eerie. But to many, it is the way they see the world. Do we really know what it is to be in dark? Not the dark we think of when we do not have sufficient information about a subject, the REAL Darkness. It will be an interesting question to answer since darkness in real is never experienced by many of us, not even in the night. Pitch darkness has literally existed only in thrillers for me. This realization dawned on me when I visited “Dialogue in the Dark” in Express Avenue Mall, Royapettah, Chennai. It is located on the other end of Food Court. Wondering what is “Dialogue in the Dark”?
House of Cards show focuses on the life of the Underwood, Frank and Claire as they foray into politics. From being a senator from North Carolina to getting promoted to Vice President and there to President. Frank, an unconventional man uses his unorthodox ways to get the better of them and steps his way up and kills any man or woman who gets in the way of his uprising. This show elucidates and gives the viewers an insight to American Politics from the perspective of a very strong man, Frank. This show does focus on other people such as Claire, Frank’s wife on how she helps her husband rise to power. “The power couple” is what they are known to be as they use politics and business hand in hand to rise in power, to prove power is worthier than money in this world.
Frank Underwood is coming to India with the television premiere of House of Cards Season 5 on Saturday, 3rd June, 5 PM onwards, only on Zee Café!
This season starts on a strong note with Frank becoming President but we should wait and see if the power in the show is retained, specifically the anti-climax plot that creates the much needed excitement. This season will hopefully be better than last season as Season 4 became a bit dull after Frank becomes President. However, since this series starts off with Frank being his own self, it sends a strong note and the fans have even more to rejoice that Frank Underwood continues to rise to penultimate power and authority and does what he does best even though he is the most powerful man in the free world.
This first episode posts a satirical note on the Government and how it can get awry and complicated and if justice is done, there will be a positive note left by the people to the President and support is just a matter of belief. This episode gives a ravaging lift off to Season 5 as all fans know, Frank Underwood cannot be changed and everyone should know it (according to Frank).
The first episode brings up a positive note to fans and gives a shining example of how Mr. Underwood retains his glamour in a more older style. If you could not care more for political drama in this world, this episode fits right in.
