Two Million Square Feet Mall, Chennai Market City, In Velachery Soon

Chennai’s shopping landscape is set to change with a sprawling two million-square feet mall coming up near Guru Nanak College in Velachery.

Mumbai-based mall developer Phoenix Mills, which is promoting the shopping plaza – christened Chennai Market City – said at that size it would be the biggest mall in the city, toppling Express Avenue, which has a built-up space of less than one million square feet.

Phoenix Mills CEO Shishir Shrivastava said Chennai Market City would house a mall, an apartment complex and perhaps a luxury hotel too. The mall will also have an exclusive wing for luxury shopping with international brands, making it the second mall in India after Mumbai’s High Street Phoenix to have such a zone.

Fruit of Cashew, Cashew Apple Can Turn into Cash with Minimum Investment

Remember the tongue tickling cashew fruit, Cashew apple, which is usually thrown away after taking the nut, can be converted into value added products that can generate good income with minimal investment.

“On an average, 35 tonnes of cashew apple are wasted every year. We can produce about 8 lakh litres of alcohol worth Rs 1,000 crore. The alcohol can be used as substitute for oil imported into the country,” said V.P. Poty, principal scientist, CEPC Laboratory and Technical Division.

Chennai’s Second International Airport

Chennai may soon have a second airport. Airports Authority of India (AAI) has proposed a greenfield airport at Sriperumbudur thatwould accommodate 5 million passengers a year.

With the Airports Authority of India planning to develop a second airport in Sriperumbudur, to be operated along with the one in Meenambakkam, Chennai may become the first in the country to have two international airports as work on the second airport in Goa and Mumbai may be delayed.

Nano Mission For Agriculture Promises Quality Food to us and Reduced Cost to Farmers

Coimbatore is fast emerging as the nano hub of India with the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) having prepared the draft for the nano mission for agriculture to help the country ensure food security. The project, which has an ambitious primary outlay of Rs 1,000 crore, promises to provide quality food to the consumer and help the farmer reduce the harvest costs.

The nano mission could also help stem the spiraling inflation. TNAU nanotechnology department head K.S. Subramanian said an array of nano gadgets are in the pipeline to help the common man. These include the nano sensors that the department has been developing. The sensors will alert farmers about diseases that are about to hit his crop. The farmer can take quick measures based on such alerts and prevent his crop from being destroyed. The consumer, on his part, can use nano food packaging to store a bottle of sugarcane juice or banana chips for almost 60 days.

No Rooms in 4 star and 5 star Hotels in Chennai till February 5

If you plan to travel to Chennai and find an accommodation in the star hotels in the city, think twice.  Name Chola Sheraton, HyattRegency, Le Meridien,  Park Sheraton, Taj Connemara, no rooms are available till this weekend.  Thanks to the Leather Fair, city hotels are sold out for the entire week.

“It’s really very heartening. Unlike in the last three years, this time almost all four and five star hotels in the city are sold out. Even the new additions to the city hotel rooms during the year are absorbed,” said the General Manager of a luxury hotel in the city.

There are about 3,000 star-rated hotel rooms in the city, including the 250 rooms added by Hyatt Regency a few months ago.
