Kokkarakko – A must try place for Veg and Non-Veg lovers
Kokkarakko, a new restaurant with no frills was a surprise package for us. The homely ambience and the service confirmed that we will be having a great experience. These days quality food alone does not suffice, we look for service and ambience has taken a new form, we look for a place which is not noisy that we cannot hear our own voice. Kokkarakko gives us a homely feel and the food that we tasted also gave us the same. No preservatives, no stored vegetables ( all are procured fresh), and traditional spices made our dinner a good experience.
Given the list of items available, it is a haven for non-veg eaters with Khadaknath chicken – we were told, it is a specific exotic variety of black chicken procured from Madhya Pradesh, and many other items. Vegetarian food was no less, we had a good range of starters, main course and desserts and yes, the pricing is another big plus. Quite affordable, Kokkarakko has unlimited vegetarian meals of 24 items for Rs.149.
We started out with a Tomato Jeeraga soup, a simple non-creamy rasam style soup. It did work as an appetizer, the very purpose of having it as a first item in a meal. In starters, we had Karukku Murukku Vendaikai, Chettinad Paneer Tikka, and Crispy Guntur Corn. The Karukku Murukku Vendaikai was crispy and the quantity was sufficient for us to keep on munching it. Addictive. Chettinad Paneer tikka was spicy and Guntur corn, our favorite was good too.
One thing to remember here is the quantity – comfortable for two. Thalassery Biryani was too good and Kal Dosa and Mushroom Chettinad Gravy made a excellent combination. Loved the fact that the items tasted fresh and had no heavy dose of masala.
Rose milk is a Must Try, out of the world beverage and have never tasted anything like it. Watermelon juice without sugar in its natural form was another tasty plus.
In the desserts section, the chef has gone one step ahead to get innovate with traditional items with a twist – so we got Coconut Saffron Pudding, Tirunelveli Halwa with biscuit with icecream and Black forest Akkaravadisal. The way it was served in tea glass was nice because after such a heavy meal, desserts are a must try but then serving big quantity draws out the interest in consuming it and desserts taste best when served in such quantity. Do check out the dessert based on Panchamirtham also.
Every item in the menu has been carefully chosen and is prepared with great care. A place to opt for when we are looking for a restaurant which serves non-vegetarian and vegetarian dishes and does a good job in both capable of satisfying both the diners. And for hard core non-vegetarians, you are missing something, if you have not tried this place.
