Pakwan Restaurant, A Vegetarians Delight
Pakwan, a vegetarian restaurant in TNagar, Chennai celebrated the first anniversary of their operations along with the launch of their new menu which boasts of an array of interesting dishes. We were invited to be the part of the celebrations and taste the new menu. It was fun with games and food, and we enjoyed the lovely preparations and the ambience, a special mention to the mocktails we were floored with in the process.
This has been our first visit to the place even though it came up many times earlier. The new menu carries Asparagus risotto with almonds, and to the Masterchef fans out there, it would not sound new. Based out of rice, it was a queer dish for a South Indian but yet delicately interesting and we liked it.
Steam Corn Spinach Dimsum, generally not a fan of it, was really good with thin outer layer and the not too spicy sauce/chutney, a clear winner and a must try.
We had Red Pepper soup, a tad spicy and the corn nuggets in it made for the spiciness.
We had two salads, the vegetable (Mexican Corn Salad) and the fruity one (Pakwan Special Salad) . Nice choice, but felt the parsley overpowering in the fruity one.
Starters these days have started to dominate the menu and if you are one who loves to experiment with it, we have an array of starters, Crispy Corn Water Chestnut, Makai Sheek Kabab, Zamindari Achari Aloo and Veg Delight.
There was a Cottage Cheese Cutlet sizzler in the main course and the Indian breads with the side dishes – Dal Pakwan, Subzi Keema Amritsari, Lasuni Palak Chenna and Hare Pyaz ka Paneer.
Scored in taste, consistency and presentation. Finally, the desserts, Gulab jamun, mousse and ice-cream were spot-on.
Mocktails, a good list of choices specifically without the lime factor won our hearts. It has become a common practice to hero lime in every mocktail as in mojito and it more often leads to most of them taste similar as lime has the tendency to dominate the taste. Pakwan has an Impressive collection of mocktails based on fruit juices, syrups, cream, herbs and spices. We had peach and ginger mocktail, Virgin Colada, frozen mango and a whole lot of them.
New Menu launched by Pakwan restaurant –
As a part of the celebrations, we had two events, Pani puri eating competition and Salad preparation. We won the Salad preparation competition for the best look and the best tasting salad went to Yogita, fellow blogger.
Pakwan has options for groups of 8 to 10 to have set menu and enjoy food at a great ambiance and good service. Advance Booking is strongly recommended.
For vegetarians, Pakwan is a nice place to try out a good variety of dishes. Do try and let us know your thoughts.
