Flower Drum brings Vegetarian Chinese Thai Food to Adyar
Flower drum has been in our hit list for quite some time for its Vegetarian Chinese Thai Food. Located in Egmore, it was just not forthcoming rather getting distracted to other restaurants once we hit heart of Chennai. Flower Drum opened their other restaurant at Namma Adyar near Aavin circle (above ICICI Bank). We are thankful to Flower Drum and the Chennai food bloggers community to have made it possible to have a firsthand tasting session at this new establishment. First thing we noticed is the ambiance. Few tables were arranged to have a circular seating accommodating 6 people and more. This has always been an issue when we go as a family for get-togethers.
The menu was exhaustive with good varieties highlighting Paneer, Corn, baby corn and Mushroom. For Tofu lovers, we had few items for you too. Now to the food we had –
Soup – Man Chow spelt Chinese throughout with soy base, tiny bit of mushrooms and a sharp green chilli now n then for that zing. Tried the spicy corn soup and Veg Lemon coriander soup and both were yummy too. Loved the tangy zing of the lemon coriander soup and corn soup tasted rich and quite different.
The list of starters ran for pages – We had corn cornet, crackling spinach, sweet corn, cheese corn spinach roll, cheese and cottage cheese dum, crispy chilli potato, veg platter with wontons (Pictures will speak for themselves I guess) – To cut it short, every item was good. Cracking spinach, Crispy Chilli Potato and the dimsums deserve special mention – Drool worthy food here.
Lady in red accompanied me throughout the food session with her strawberry and white grapes combination. Light and bit tad too sweet for my palate which I guess is to balance the tangy taste of grapes and strawberry, it was an interesting thirst quencher.
Main Course was of course rice and noodles with gravies. We had the Flower drum special Sizzler, Flower Drum special rice, Thai veg Curry, Chilli paneer, and Basil Noodles.
Sizzler arrived sizzling and the main course was good.
We also had the Chinese pan cake with ginger sauce. It was not something I could relish though it was not bad when combined with the sauce. Mainstream Chinese Food!
Desserts were simply awesome – we had Ice Katchung – creamy making us look for more and more. Darsaan (Flat honey noodles) with a dollop of ice-cream on the top is a not to miss one. A bit of crunch to the creaminess is all it had for us and you just cannot stop reaching out to one more now n then. Paan Kulfi was the last to come but for paan lovers, it is journey down the lane of those beeda wallahs – simply loved it.
- Do ask for Individual portions if you would like to try out many soups. Maybe there are individual portions available for others too. Do check it out in the menu.
- Quantity was good. Price decent for a specialty restaurant as this.
- We did not find any lotus stem and asparagus based dishes quite common in Chinese cuisine. Pak Choi was in the menu but we did not try it.
Overall a nice experience. Do try it out!
