A Splash expo was inaugurated in the city on Wednesday. With a vast showcase of ornamental varieties of fishes, the mega aqua show on showcase at Valluvarkottam was inaugurated by director Ameer. Walking in, the mood is set with the lively beats and opening lyrics of “Boom Boom Robo-da,” coming through a life-size Rajinikanth. The Superstar has been modelled (big guns in hand) after a popular scene from Endhiran. Now, the actor may have no connection to marine world, but the appearance did make the biggest ‘splash’ of all.

The exhibition showcases over a 1,000 rare varieties of fish. These include the Flower Horn, Black Ghost, Blue Dolphin and Lion Head among others. Said organiser Prinson VP of Prism Events, “Fish became a passion for me when I was about five years old.” He recalled with a smile, “I would collect fishes from the pond near my house and raise them in Horlicks bottles that I would fill with water.”

Also on display are 80 varieties of exotic birds, guinea pigs, white rabbits and even a lone and surly Persian cat.

“A lot of owners give up on raising fish because the maintaining an aquarium is a challenge,” states Prinson. He adds, “This is also the case with bird owners. So we have also displayed aquariums and cages that are modern and easy to maintain for sale.” Various aquarium  products, filters and accessories and pet supplies are also available.

The Splash Expo began in 2007 and has since been all over South India. This is the 27th such exhibition, although it will be a second time for Chennai.

It will be open for public viewing up to August 26 at Valluvar Kottam, Chennai.
