TNPSC Launches One-Time Registration System and Online Application Facility
In order to reduce application processing time and cost, the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC), on Monday, launched an One-Time Registration System (OTRS) and an Online Application Facility (OAF) along with revamped website. TNPSC Chairman R Nataraj told Express the e-governance measures were part of the commission’s efforts to cut down paperwork and increase transparency.
With the launch of the OTRS, candidates who wished to apply for any posts notified by the commission shall register online with specified information in digital format. A unique ID along with a password would be provided to the candidates. Further, SMS and e-mail alerts would be sent once relevant notifications are issued by the TNPSC.
The chairman said `50 would be charged as fee for the facility and each registration would be valid for five years. Different modes of payment, including through debit and credit cards, would be made available. Once a person registered for OTRS, he or she was not required to pay any further application fee when applying for the vacancies.
He said that the Commission had done away with the old system of OMR paper applications as well with the introduction of the OAF. Once the candidates decided to apply for a particular opening, they could do so by utilising their unique ID given in the OTRS. Both online and offline options of payments were available.
In the offline mode, an electronic challan would be generated and the examination fee could be paid at designated branches of Indian Bank or 500 designated post offices across the State.
While urban centres had enough internet penetration for the new measures to succeed, the rural side was of some concern. Therefore, the commission had decided to open 500 facilitation counters across the State with two counters in each taluk. The services in these centres would be free of cost, Nataraj said.
About the revamped website, the chairman said it would function as a Knowledge Management Portal. Apart from the provisions for OTRS and OAF, the candidates corner in the portal will have reading material, answer keys, previous years’ question papers, important judgements and other such information.
Natraj also said that 12 notifications for 16 posts and 152 vacancies have been released on Monday.
