Flyover On Vandalur-Walajabad Road Opened for Public

The flyover on the Vandalur-Walajabad Road was inaugurated on Friday the 27th January 2012.

The 1.48-km-long flyover replaces the level crossing near the Vandalur railway station. The Vandalur Flyover connects the east and west side of the Vandalur railway station. It will have a bowstring design similar to that of Rangarajapuram flyover. This bridge helps the motorists who travel towards Kanchipuram. Until now the motorists on both the sides have to wait for long until the railway gate is opened. Now that the bridge  construction is completed, traffic on GST Road also move freely.

Distance between Vandalur and Walajabad is approximately 30 km (18.61 miles)
Distance between Vandalur and Kanchipuram is approximately 48 km (30.05 miles)

Vandalur forms the junction of the Vandalur-Kelambakkam Road, Connecting the Grand Southern Trunk Road (GST) with Old Mamallapuram Road (OMR). The Outer Ring Road (Vandalur – Minjur) is a major transport corridor being developed along the periphery of Chennai Metropolitan Area by the CMDA.

Arignar Anna Zoological Park located here is also known as Vandalur Zoo. The Park was the first public zoo in India.
