Kailash Kitchen
Tibetan Food

Kailash Kitchen is a tiny little, unpretentious Tibetan joint right beside Cake Park at Choolaimedu. Finding the place is a bit tough. But once you find it, know that the search was worth all the effort.

The entire place is one small room with around 6 tables, each with a seating capacity of 4 people. There are Tibetan bells & lanterns that adorn the joint. Frequented by mainly young Tibetans, you’re likely to feel out of place but it’ll take approximately 10 mins to feel like one among them.

Menu is not very extensive. There’s noodles, fried rice, thukpa, momos & few other dishes- all available in veg, chicken & beef. Yes beef lovers, rejoice!

Specialties include vegetarian noodles and chicken noodles, the chicken fried momos & the beef steamed momos. The noodles are delicious. Mildly spiced, full of flavour & generous portions.

The momos are the real draw to this place. Perfect is the only word I can come up with for them. The steamed ones were steamed to perfection & the fried ones were crisp & non greasy. The filling is absolutely delicious.

Try the Thukpa,Tibetan noodle soup with meat. Do try out the Tibetan version of fried chicken.

No big gangs as there are not enough tables to accomodate a large number of people. Service is good and very casual since it is run by a family.

Watch out, the place can be real steamy in Summer as the place is pretty less ventilated. Else if you are looking for a no-frills joint serving yummy food, this place is good and the food will not disappoint you.

Jaavaid’s Kebabs N Kurries

Kashmiri food Comes To Chennai

Founded in October 2011, Jaavaid’s Kebabs N Kurries is a haven of authentic Kashmiri cuisine. The aromatic piquant dishes like wazwaan, rogan josh, dum aloo, tabak maaz prepared by the wazas (Kashmiri chefs) are bound to transport you to the beautiful valley.

Many believe that Kashmiri food is generally sweet because of the use of dry fruits but the truth is that the cuisine uses lots of green chillies and curds and everything in between. Also, Kashmiri cuisine has a rich variety of vegetarian options as well. It’s not all mutton.

The Shammi Kebabs and Chicken Kebabs are specialities here, as are the Sheek Kebabs, which, unlike its usual versions, are not encrusted with breadcrumbs. Guests should sample Jaavaid’s Special Kebab, which he describes as “KFC boneless chicken, Kashmiri style”.

For vegetarians, he recommends the Headder, a mushroom curry spiced with Kashmir’s best flavours, or the Al Yakhni, a bottle gourd and curd preparation, which is best described as the northern cousin of Moor Kozhambu.
