The Madras Motor Sports Club Race Track
Here we have a good news for all bike racing enthusiasts in India. The Madras Motor Sports Club track in Irungattukottai, Chennai is likely to become one of the feasible option to host MotoGP, though not now but in some later point of time. This big surprise bomb is dropped by Mr. Amit Arora, General Manager of MMSC operations.
This news comes a little after the country’s first Formula One circuit (Buddh International Circuit) at Noida is inaugurated. The MMSC track currently holds a Grade 4 status and all necessary activities would be performed to make this get a Grade 2 status. This would make this track the second most advanced in the sub continent.
According to Bike India, ‘MMSC is already in talks with MotoGP promoters, Dorna and racing circuit designers Apex, from UK. The sports club is getting vital information to design a racetrack suited for MotoGP and Formula 2 races.’
The MMSC track is as much as 21 years old and is likely to see vast improvements in the next 3 years. Racers here are asked foe constant feedbacks and ideas to bring it to the international standard. Also, day to day activities which include races taking place here every now and then should not be interference for the forthcoming activities. So, this is the biggest challenge that the team faces right now.
The track is 11 meters wide and has 10 major curves, apart from a number of minor ones. A smaller club circuit of 2.1 kms is also available for shorter events. The main track has three straights, with the longest one being 250 meters. The main circuit is about 3.717 kms long, while the club circuit is 2.067 kms long. The circuit conforms to the two international bodies – the Federation Internationale de Automobile and the Federation Internationale du Motocyliste, who lay down the norms for racing and racing circuits.
Mr. Arora also said, ““The plan is to create a multi-use venue for motorsport, alongside an entertainment area. It will have shopping malls, hotels and restaurants. There will be new paddock buildings and garages. The length of the main straight will be increased and corners will be worked to improve speed.” Arora added.”
It is really happy to know about this great move. This track has seen many great Indian racers and has set the pace for them to go global at some point of time later. India would soon be seen as the apt place to host many motoring activities in a short span of time.
