Music For and By Differently Abled

Carnatic Music, A classical music form of southern India and one of the world’s oldest and richest musical traditions. During the month of December in Chennai many proficient  singers and instrument players of Carnatic Music perform in various venues of the city. Music lovers of all over the world attend these programs.

Every year 3rd December is commemorated as World Disabled Day( Differently Abled ). This year, Carnatica and Rotary Club of Madras Coromandel (RCMC) will organise three events , CarnaTech between 10 am to 1 pm, Parallel Music Fest between 3 pm to 5 pm and Karnamrit, a Carnatic concert between 6.30 pm to 8.30 pm by Smt. Ranjani and Smt Gayatri who have volunteered to perform in aid of the visually challenged – at The Music Academy on 3 December 2011.

Shashikiran of Carnatica has also volunteered to present CarnaTech and webcast it as well as Karnamrit in the evening.

“Added to all these, to involve the fans of Carnatic Music in this event, a first ever virtual quiz-CARNATIC (I)nternet (Q)uiz, open to all, to fans across the World, will be conducted and streamed online”,says Shashikiran. This quiz will be moderated by Sriranjani Santhanagoplan.

This year, this event “Music for and by Differently Abled” will be hosted by Rotarian O.S.Arun. Shri Guruvayoor Durai will be conferred the title – Distinguished Differently Abled Artiste. It will be followed by a vocal concert by Prof. P.P. Ramakrishnan, disciple of late M.D. Ramanathan. As in the past, the Club will also felicitate the Sangita Kalanidhi designate of 2011, Mridanga Vidwan Dr. Trichy Sankaran.

The passes in denominations of Rs. 1000, 500, 200 and 100 can be obtained by contacting 98408 74525 and they will be delivered to the residences of the rasikas, who will have the pleasure of enjoying a music- filled evening and contributing to a cause dear to all of us.
