The concept of health food, would have earned you a sneer from the average Chennaiite fond of crispy Vadas and Masala Dosas. Today slowly and steadily, with eating right and healthy taking prominence across the world, many in the city have switched sides from deep-fried and golden to fresh and green.
Cholayil Sanjeevanam promotes healthy living through Ayurveda and Yoga. Good health starts with good food. Sanjeevanam also has under its umbrella a 100% Veg. Health Restaurant serves up healthy and tasty food designed along the naturopathic principles and is supported by a panel of eminent doctors and dieticians. The food is prepared only in earthen, bronze and copper vessels by specially trained, experienced cooks, without using ingredients considered detrimental to health.
At their restaurant, we are served “Rajakeeyam”, a lunch based on 27 dishes to be eaten in a particular order. The healthy feast has found many takers. The seven-course meal starts with a banana and grated coconut, followed by five different types of juices that provide essential proteins, vitamins, minerals and calcium. Served on a banana leaf, the sequence of food moves smoothly from uncooked, semi-cooked to steamed or stir-fried, incorporating greens and a small portion of beaten red rice. It ends with the payasam, a spoon full of honey to aid digestion and a natural beeda filled with coconut, beetroot and dates. The whole course contains only 1040 calories and is priced at Rs 250.
