Exhibition, Competition and Colorful Event for Children

The Arts Management students of DakshinaChitra are organising a programme for children focussing on the joy of reading. This programme includes an exhibition, competition and other colourful events on children’s literature.

The event, planned in DakshinaChitra in collaboration with the Kalakshetra Foundation, is scheduled from December 23, 2011, to January 31, 2012.

As part of the programme, a competition for students (of Classes 3 to 9) on ‘Storywriting with illustration’ is being organised. The winners will be decided by a jury and the winning stories will be put up as part of the exhibition.

The topics

The topics are “Kitchen at midnight” or “Use a tree as the main character of your story” or “Write a story with you as the main character.”

Children can participate as an individual or as a team of two (in the same age group). Individual participants should write their story and do their own illustrations. If you are part of a team, you can write your story and get your friend to illustrate it.

The stories can be written in English, Tamil, Hindi, Malayalam, Kannada or Telugu.

It’s compulsory that the stories are accompanied by hand done and not printed illustrations.

The story with illustration should be in the form of a mini book. Take an A4 size paper; fold it horizontally into two equal halves; use the first side as the Cover Page displaying the title of the story and main illustration.

Along with the title, add your name/names as a byline. (For example: Written by… and Illustrated by…) Use the second, third and the fourth side to tell your story along with other illustrations.

Post your stories to The Madras Craft Foundation, No. 6, Madhuram Flats, G – 3, Urur Olcott Road, Near Rajaji Bhavan, Besant Nagar, Chennai 600090, or hand-deliver them at the same address with your name, age, class, school and phone number.
